Honestly I am very much indulged in my own personal interests or hobbies most of the time. However from the TV commercial clips between my taped tennis games, or through the glances of the Vancouver Sun's topics, I got to know Terry Fox's name. Watching him two jumps and a hop running marathon across Canada, I am touched every time by this young man.

Today, I tuned to CBC's "Sounds like Canada" and listened to a former head nurser of Royal Columbia talking about Terry Fox's days in the hospital as he was diagnosed of a kind of bone cancer. Then I realized how little I knew of this man. He was actually a very local guy, an SFU student living in Port Coquitlam. While listenning, I started to google some information about him. As I read and listened about him, I could not stop my tears running down.

Thinking of the age of Terry Fox when he ran across Canada with the artificial leg while suffering and knowing he was going to die of cancer soon, the other kids with the same age now are swarming in the park, racing cars on the street killing people. And then there are other group of people constantly arguing for what do I know for what reasons outrageously and eventually resulting in hurting each other emotionally. Can we do something that makes sense for ourselves and for this community positively? At least we are healthy and full of hopes and dreams for the future. We need to keep disciplined and commit ourselves to make our hopes and dreams true.

It is very well written and makes strong sense to me. I can't agree with you more on this point. Thanks for inspiring us by Terry Fox and your positive attitude.

Thank you very much, 歪瓜裂枣, it's so inspiring and thoughtful. You should translate it to Chinese and post it to 温哥华不眠夜.

All elementary schools in BC (maybe secondary schools too) have Terry Fox Run in Sep. in memory of Terry Fox. Children are encouraged to donate money for Cancer research.

I learned about Terry Fox was on my way from Prince Gorge to Jasper. By the Yellowhead highway, there was a very big and nice rest area. When we pulled over, I saw a sign pointed to a majestic mountain. The sign reads “Terry Fox Mtn”.

Now Terry Fox run has become a world wide event for cancer research. People are still motivated by the determination he demonstrated when he dipped his artificial limb in Atlantic Ocean in 1980.
