有一台东芝的超薄本本，02年的，现在装的是xp，也没什么别的用，就直接当下载专用机了。cpu是PIII 750，内存256m。

硬盘太小，只有20g。还只能买东芝的专用超薄硬盘，死贵。

而且原装的外置光驱坏掉之后，配了一个，结果不能从光盘直接装系统，还是东芝卖给我新硬盘的时候，我要求他们考了一个系统文件在硬盘里面才搞定的。

做别的用都太慢。在想如果装linux能干啥？

另外装这个ubuntu之后，驱动都找得到吗？

256M内存装UBUNTU可能有点问题，你可以试试小号的LINUX, 象PUPPY，小芭比，LINUX除了游戏差点，基本需求都可以满足

另外UBUNTU的大部分驱动都可以找到

你的主板支持U盘启动吗？如果支持就好办了

东芝加内存可是很贵的。买它256m内存就要1000多。

With only the minimum amount of memory available, the installation process will take longer than normal, but will complete successfully, and the system will perform adequately once installed. Low-memory systems may be able to use the desktop CD to install by selecting "Install Ubuntu" from the boot menu to run just the installer, rather than the whole desktop started by selecting "Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer".

如果不安装GUI，只在command line下工作的话， 256M还是可以的。 我在virtual machine里比较过， 编译toolchain几乎没太多差别(E7300)：
256M：282 min
512M: 277 min

我觉得大家都没说到点子上。笔记本装linux其实比台式机好准备，你笔记本的型号+linux在google上search一下就好了。

要是有人能装，说明没问题。别人装具体哪个版本的distro问题不大，基本上有一个distro能装上，ubuntu就能装上。它对驱动的支持真的不错。

机子支持Remote Network Boot via PXE否? 如果支持的话, 弄台机器做server, 直接网络安装好了. 我只用过slackware PXE安装, 其他的没试过.

一般来说, 02年的本子应该不用太担心驱动的问题.
