我們每個人都會習慣了一套自己常用的詞匯。寫作時，我們腦海裡浮現的就是這些熟悉的單詞。如果單詞量不足的話，那麼我們用來用去不外就是那些詞匯，文章清湯寡水，味道索然。

	如何使自己寫作的詞匯豐富和多樣化起來呢？
	一種方法就是多學同義詞。英語同義近義的詞匯繁多。學一個單詞，順帶吧與它有關的同義詞也記住，那學的就不只一個詞匯，而是若幹甚至十來個詞匯。在寫文章的時候，有意識地變換同義詞，可以令自己的文章顯得豐滿活躍，而不是一潭死水，味同嚼蠟。試對比下列一篇短文：

Uncle Tom was born in a troubled time. His father was the owner of a grocery store in a tough neighborhood, where his family was humiliated by some local bullies.

Longing for changing his life, Uncle Tom imitated the works of some famous writers in a simpler form, under the pen name of Jackson. Though his writings got rejected, he was persistent. The spirit of optimism filled his works. His painful efforts finally paid off, as his writings had aroused public interest. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of American Writers. At the ceremony of his induction, he forgave those whom he considered worthless, and thanked those who supported him all those years.

用同義詞取代某些詞匯後，短文如下：

	Uncle Tom was born in a turbulent time. His father was the proprietor of a grocery store in a brusque neighborhood, where his family was demeaned by some local bullies.
	Avid for changing his life, Uncle Tom emulated the works of some famous writers in a more concise form, under the pseudonym of Jackson. Though his writings got rebuffed, he was resilient. The spirit of optimism pervaded throughout his works. His excruciating efforts finally paid off, as his writings had evoked public interest. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame of American Writers. At the inauguration of his induction, he forgave those whom he considered despicable, and thanked those who had supported him all those years.
