1. Clove - A most common cure for a toothache is clove oil. However, just in case you don't have clove oil, a couple of cloves will also help. Get your clove, put one in your mouth and slowly push the juice you extract from it, then push it towards the tooth, which gives you the most pain. Clove is a natural painkiller and you'll discover that your pain decreases quickly.
2. Asafetida - An additional outstanding tooth pain relief aid that derives from the lowly asafetida plant. Pick off a small pinch and spread it with a bit of Citrus lemon juice. Heat up this concoction until it is warm and then using a cotton swab, apply this juice to the impacted tooth. The tooth pain relief is quick and absolute.
3. Garlic - Just using the common garlic is another good tooth pain relief provider. You'll require a clove of garlic somewhat crushed and blended with a hint of rock (black) salt to be put on on the tooth that is giving you problems. This remedy does not simply treat the tooth ache, but likewise addresses the trouble that affects the tooth.
When cavities develop, a dentist removes decayed areas of the tooth, usually with a drill. If the decay is limited to the enamel, the tooth can sometimes repair itself. Then all that is needed are prescription fluoride rinses, which help with repair. Fluoride makes the teeth more resistant to the acid produced by bacteria.
If decay is more extensive, the dentist prepares the surface of the tooth and fills the space left after removing decayed areas. New tooth-colored filling materials (composite resins and bonding agents) can sometimes be used. They help prevent cavities and appear natural. If a large area of the tooth is removed, a metal or porcelain crown may be needed. A crown fits over the whole tooth above the gum line. It is cemented securely in place.
Fillings and crowns are restorations: They help protect the remaining healthy part of the tooth and restore the tooth as much as possible to its original condition. If decay has damaged the pulp, root canal treatment is done. The pulp is removed, and the remaining space is filled with a substance that helps permanently prevent bacteria from entering that space. The tooth is then reshaped and covered with a metal or porcelain crown. If the tooth has so much decay that it cannot be restored or if other dental or medical problems make saving the tooth impossible, it may be removed (extracted). source:

How to Become a Patient
If you wish to become a UBC patient, phone (604) 822-2112. The answering system will provide some information regarding the specific procedures that are offered in the Clinic (e.g. complete dentures, implants). If you believe that you require comprehensive treatment, you will be asked to come for a scheduled screening appointment (fee $20) to determine if your dental needs can be met by our 3rd and 4th year students. This is a very short appointment where a brief medical history will be taken and a dental screening will be done.
What to Expect After Being Accepted
Once you are accepted as a patient, your name will go onto a waiting list. Patients are assigned to students according to our students' level of training and requirements. This may take some time! If you experience a dental emergency before you are assigned to a student, phone our emergency line (604) 822-6917. You will be seen in the Emergency Clinic. Once you are assigned to a student, you will be contacted for your first appointment. You will receive a complete examination and radiographs to determine the treatment plan and fee estimate. The cost of the examination and radiographs is approximately $50-100.
