有些SAT填空題具有鮮明的因果關系。它們的特征是帶有以because 或for 導出的從句。我們可以根據該從句說明的原因來判斷主句的選擇答案。例如：

Because fruit juice fills babies’ small stomachs and ruins their appetite for foods that contain nutrients they _________, consuming large quantities can actually prove _______ to babies less than 24 months old.

(A)	prefer…beneficial
(B)	choose…counterproductive
(C)	require…helpful
(D)	need…detrimental
(E)	ingest…advantageous

題目的意思是： 因為果汁容易使出生嬰兒細小的胃口填滿，使他們對其他營養食品沒有食欲。所以對未滿24個月的嬰兒來說，喝太多果汁實際上是_________的。
從原因從句可以判斷，主句的填空詞應該是貶義詞。從上面五個答案看，只有B和D入選。B的第一個詞不符題意，故唯一正確的答案是D。
類似的例子還有：
Because of its strength, adhesiveness, and invaluable qualities as a nest-building material, many species of birds ________ silk into their nests.

(A)	smuggle
(B)	jettison
(C)	incorporate
(D)	entice
(E)	dissolve

原因從句列出絲的一系列優點，據此可以判斷主語的填空詞應該是褒義詞。顯然只有C符合這一條件。

有時候，則是通過主語的結果，反推斷出原因從句的填空詞：

Her memoirs are quite unlike those of her predecessors, for she is bold and aggressive where they are _________ and comfortable.

（A）	audacious
（B）	vivid
（C）	bland
（D）	brazen
（E）	contentious

主句說明她的回憶錄與前任不同。因為她的風格是果敢和咄咄逼人的，而她的前任則是_________和閒適的。可以判斷，填空詞是一個溫和的形容詞。排除了答案中感情色彩強烈的詞，只有C符合題意。

這類題目是SAT題中相對比較容易的題目。根據句子中因果關系的判斷，可以比較輕松地選擇出正確的答案。
