A young woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted at a notorious Pitt Meadows, B.C., rave will speak to the news media on Wednesday afternoon, police say.
"The victim of a high-profile incident at a rave party in Pitt Meadows in September 2010, along with her father, have requested to speak to the media about the recently issued stay of proceedings regarding the allegation of sexual assault," police said in a written release.
The woman, who was 16 at the time of the rave and whose name cannot be released, is expected to speak to reporters at 1:30 p.m. PT.
On Tuesday, Crown prosecutors dropped charges against Colton McMorris, 19, the only man accused of sexual assault in the incident.
McMorris's lawyer Tony Serka said Tuesday the Crown admitted it did not have strong enough evidence against his client to proceed with a trial.
Serka said McMorris did nothing wrong and the charges have ruined his client's reputation.
Police said during their initial investigation that as many as half a dozen men may have been involved in the alleged assault and that the victim had been drugged.
After McMorris was charged in January, the victim released a statement through police, calling the incident and the aftermath a "terrible ordeal."
A young offender who posted pictures of the incident — described at the time as a gang rape — on Facebook was sentenced to one year's probation in January.
Another man, Dennis John Allen Warrington, 19, has been charged with distributing child ******graphy.
