Is it not illegal to sell expired food and berverages ?
I recently bought some 12 packs of soda they tasted like old water.... they were caned in 1999. meaning i bought them july 13th 2008 and they were 9 years old . I saw food in a hospital vending machine before and the food was so old it had mold growing on it ? is this not illegal???
How can places sell old moldy food and sodas that taste like water and are 9 years old???
If this is illegal what can i do about it . what do i do ?

There is legislation governing sale of unsafe and unsuitable food for consumption. Meaning that it is an offence to sell food which could cause harm. As well, the person could be subject to a civil suit in negligence if damage can be proved.
My advice would be to report it to the relevant authority to inspect the matter.

It is legal because you had the choice to not buy it. As an adult and responsible consumer it is your responsibility to check the expiration dates on the food you buy.
Some people actually choose to buy expired food, because usually they are reduced in price.
What you should do is take the soda back to the store and complain to the manager about it. The store will probably be willing to let you exchange it or get a refund, they probably were not even aware they had soda that old on the shelf.

It's not a criminal offense, but it is a health code violation to sell food that is expired, contaminated, or otherwise unhealthy for consumption. It also create civil liability. If you get sick from eating that package of green nacho cheese with bluish nacho chips, you could sue for damages.

Actually, there is no such thing as expired food. There is food that has passed its RECOMMENDED use by date. There is food that has actually spoiled. The use by dates are INTENDED to expire before the food actually spoils.
MOST foods are safe SIGNIFICANTLY past the stated use by date.
Whoever said it is not illegal, but violates health code: violating health codes IS illegal.

What you should do is report to the relevant local authority and ask for reasonable redress of al least the money back of equal amount that you paid for it. What you should do is report to hospital authority immediately as your obligation being a good and concerned citizen of your community and your country.

it is like what Bankykun said it is legal but if it is a perishable food like milk or eggs then no and if they are selling merchandise like this that is expired you can contact the FDA they can investigate it and fine them but that's about all you can do and only for certain items.

FDA regulates much of the food consumed by consumers... Call FDA and your local health department... if you file a complaint with FDA keep product and receipt keep it also if you file with health department.... or you could take it back to the store and get a refund or exchange for another item... this depends on what u want to do..
