You helped: launch a new initiative to establish the right to a healthy environment in Canada¡¯s Charter of Rights and Freedoms; inspire tens of thousands to come together for climate action; teach kids (and their teachers!) about learning in the great outdoors; protect at-risk grizzlies; and research ways to move Canada¡¯s energy system towards healthier renewables.
The David Suzuki Foundation is looking for GIS volunteers to work on environmental science and policy issues in Canada. The volunteers will work closely with our National Science and Policy Team to communicate complex issues via maps and examine the consequences of proposed government policies on a range of projects and emerging news stories.
Tasks Include:
Digitizing proposed major development projects
Creating maps to help explain changes in policy from emerging news stories
Analyze datasets and generate interesting statistics for reports, social media, and blogs
Organizing data, creating metadata, documentation, quality control
Identifying the datasets that are required for analyses, but not yet available from government and industry
Other tasks as required
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Knowledge of and commitment to the David Suzuki Foundation's mission
Degree or equal course work/ experience in GIS
Ability to commit at least one day per week in our Vancouver office
Reports to: Lisa Rockwell, Spatial Ecologist
