第一次读的时候，想当然地认为音节是 ca-tion，以为发音应该接近 [ˈkæʃən]；
谁知这个词的音节是 cat-ion，后面的ion是一个独立的词，是离子的意思。
cation 阳离子；anion 阴离子。

在亚马逊Amazon网站上买过东西的同学们不少吧。当然Amazon也是南美洲的一条河。

可是大家知道吗，Amazon这个词最早来源于远古时代的亚马逊女战士。Amazon是a-mazos，意为“没有乳房的”，据说每一个亚马逊女战士，长大成人时都会烧掉或切去右边乳房，以便投掷标枪或拉弓射箭。老天啊！虽然荷马史诗里对此有记载，我依然深深地怀疑其真实性：身体受到如此巨大残害的女性，怎么还可能打仗呢。

两性畸形这个单词：hermaphrodite， 也来源于古希腊神话。

据说Hermes和Aphrodite的孩子同时具有两种性别特征。Hermes是信使和商业之神，也是那个最著名的时尚品牌，女同学常常称之为“H家”。Hermes在英语里翻译为，”赫尔墨斯”；法语的发音则和“爱马仕”更为接近。

Aphrodite是爱与美的女神，其实就是维纳斯，不过Venus是她的罗马名字，Aphrodite则是希腊名字。
