Did the Japanese invaders ask people in Taiwanese whether they accepted the ruling or not? Did Taiwanese say no to the invasion? No democracy in Japan at that time just like Mainland now. Do you still think democracy is the shield against invasions? Democracy is declining as people abuse their rights and become more divided than ever, especially when economy slows down and expenses of living go too high to be sustainable. Taiwanese just do not want to wake up from their dreams.
People in Taiwan still dream of the strength or the power of democratic system to defend the military power from the mainland. As we all know that democratic system is never a strength or power to fight against military threats. It is a way of distribution of interests when people disagree. It only works during peace time and no war threats. It only makes the nation weak and more divided instead of united as one to defend itself. Daydreamers are always winners and powerful.
